“Do I need social media for my business?” So many business owners ask us this question.
Over half of the world’s population have a presence on social media, with an average of almost 3 hours a day interaction with social media and 6 hours overall on the internet. Our simple answer is – yes, you do!
Whilst there’s still a sizeable audience of people who don’t bother with social media on a personal level. You may well be one of these people. However, when it comes to your business, you shouldn’t let your own bias influence whether or not you utilise social media.
Here are some of the biggest social media platforms that your business could be making use of:
LinkedIn is the largest professional network, with over 57 million companies having business pages on the platform and over 800 million users.
Facebook remains the world’s most popular social media platform. The average Facebook user spending on average 19.6 hours a month on the app. Facebook also has a large proportion of users over the age of 45, at 41%.
Instagram is the fourth most used platform and home to influencers and content creators. With an average of 11 hours of engagement per month, users are predominately female, and the platform has the youngest users with over half being under 35.
Twitter has the most influence over how news spreads above all. Users usually spend on average 5.1 hours a month on the platform with over 500 million tweets sent a day. People aged 25-49 make up 59.2% of people on twitter, which is probably the widest age range of all the platforms.
Snapchat is popular with the much younger age groups due to fun features such as filters. However, this is used more as a communication tool rather than a social platform.
TikTok is the new kid on the block. Businesses are just now starting to grasp how to become a social media sensation by making their videos go viral, resulting in hundreds of thousands of views. It may be that some businesses feel that this is not appropriate for them. However, if you are making content for Instagram with reels and stories, there is no reason why you shouldn’t be giving TikTok a shot.
